The Ultimate Book of Cities

Summary:

When there are so many new things to see and so many new places to go, especially in a busy and animated big city, curious children might have what appears to be an endless list of questions about their immediate surroundings and the world. Questions like:  What is that building over there? Where did this milk come from? What is this room in this hospital? Where does electricity come from?

The Ultimate Book of Cities is a great way to answer your child’s questions in a much more fun and dynamic way. Each page features beautifully designed pop-up illustrations and covers different areas of cities, such as; roads, the inside of buildings, downtown, suburban neighborhoods, parks, stores, emergency service centers like police stations and hospitals, as well as what people are doing inside, and a lot more behind the scene action of a bustling, exciting city.

Discussion points with your child:

  • Bring your child’s memory along: Everybody learns better when they can link what they are learning to their own experiences or memories. When you are reading these stories, try to remind your child of some of their relatable past experiences. experiences your child he/she experienced him/herself. For example, in the hospital section, point to the maternity room and ask them if they remember what it was like to meet their sibling for the first time. Point out one of the kids in the illustration and say “Remember that mommy was recovering in bed and you hung out with us? That room is the maternity room.”

  • Bring the book into your child’s day to day: Next time when you go to the store to pick up cheese with your child, ask him if he remembers where the bread came from. If they can’t remember, you can enthusiastically prompt your child to revisit the book and do some “research” to help answer the question.
