Introduction:

Articulating and expressing colors and patterns are very important skills to develop in early childhood. The vocabulary in this book will help your child identify the common and more complex patterns they will come across in their everyday lives.  Knowledge of colors and patterns will build your child’s confidence when speaking and help them develop an attention to detail when they describe something. Start with the simple game in this book!

These sock shaped flashcards help your child learn colors and patterns, with each sock featuring a descriptive word on one side and the corresponding pattern or color on the other. Play while developing their vocabulary in colors and patterns.

Discussion points while playing Missing Socks:

  • Ask your child where else that they can find the same color, patterns in their environment.

  • As they are getting used to the color and patterns, combine color and patterns together. (ex: if the kid answered pattern right, ask what color do they see)

  • Play the same game with your family’s socks! What patterns do they have? What color do they see?

  • For further play, what else can a sock be? (ex: a hand puppet, a stocking on a fireplace, a mitten.
