This book follows a day in the life of 7 children from different parts of the world. The author, Matt Lamothe, depicts the lives of families who have lived in the same country for generations. Plus points:
The “Meet the families” and “Author's Note” at the end of the book could be a great starting point for parents to read before you introduce this book to your child.
The author explains that although he chose families that follow many of their countries' unique traditions, that doesn’t mean the millions of people who call those same countries home have exactly the same tastes and experiences. While he was traveling Uganda, he was amazed at both how different but similar Uganda was from where he lived.
He added, “The world is a huge place inhabited by millions and millions of people who go through their lives doing the things they are used to, typically unaware of the daily activities of someone who lives in a country far away. I believe the more you learn about different people, the more you see yourself in them, and the more accepting you become.”
Many of the world’s conflicts and problems are the result of a lack of understanding that we are more similar than different.

Discussion points with your kid:
Point out similarities: For instance, if you come across a child in the book who enjoys a similar sport as your child, point it out! Do this with the other categories like Eating, Playing, Clothing, Sleeping and point out that these activities are all ones we share as human beings.
Point out differences: Have a conversation with your child about the importance and beauty of differences. When someone is different from us, we can learn new things! Explain that people who play differently can teach us new games or people who cook different foods can give us new delicious recipes! Remind your child that different doesn’t mean wrong. Different means new!
